Midwest Traffic Data Workshop Preliminary Program Available

Co-sponsored by ASCE Central Ohio, the Midwest Traffic Data Workshop: Successful Strategies in the Collection and Analysis of Data Preliminary Program is available online at www.TRB.org/conferences/2008/TrafficMidwest. The workshop, targeted at a Midwestern audience, will bring together those producing and using traffic data. The program is oriented to sharing experiences, approaches and challenges among the public agencies.

The Early Bird deadline when fees increase $50 is now about 5 weeks away.

Paul Hammersmith, P.E., has been named the Central Ohio Outstanding Civil Engineer for 2008.

Nominations for the 2008 Ohio OCEA Award

Ohio Council is seeking nominations for the 2008 Ohio Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. All firms in Ohio are invited to nominate projects for the OCEA Award.

The award is given annually to a Civil Engineering project, not an individual or firm, to recognize the contribution of the many engineers who have worked on the project.

Winner of the 2008 Robert O’Shea Engineering Ethics Award for Ohio

ASCE Student Chapter and Younger Members

Ryan J. Mahle is the winner of the 2008 Robert O’Shea Engineering Ethics Award for Ohio American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter and Younger Members for his paper “Eminent Domain and the Engineer’s Ethical Responsibilities”.

Jim Pajk is an example of a Professional Engineer who has concentrated his knowledge and skills in the area of transportation engineering and bridge design to better his community. He has achieved a position of great responsibility in the 17 years since earning his Bachelors Degree from the University of Toledo, College of Engineering. And he continues to contribute to his community and continually increase his expertise in the field.

After earning his Bachelors from Ohio University (1996) and Masters Degree from The Ohio State University (1998) in Civil Engineering, Mr. Blake has devoted his career to the design and management of public utility related projects including water and wastewater. This included working as an engineering consultant in private practice for many communities in the region, as well as his current engineering and management responsibilities with the City of Columbus. He was an instrumental contributor to the City’s current Wet Weather Management Plan from the moment it was conceived.
