Summit on Sustainability & the Environment
MORPC is having a Summit on Sustainability & the Environment on Tuesday, October 6. The Summit is packed full of breakout sessions on sustainability, the environment, being green, local foods, and more. Jack Hanna of the Columbus Zoo, will give thrilling stories of exotic creatures, diverse cultures and their relationship to central Ohio – and he is bringing some of his animals along. The panel of experts from AEP, Battelle, and the Columbus Council on World Affairs will discuss local “green” initiatives that are having global impacts.
Harold L. Michael Memorial Transportation Scholarship
If you are a Purdue graduate or have another connection with Purdue University, you may be interested in contributing to a scholarship that honors Harold Michael.
Approximately 10 years ago, Harold L. Michael passed away at the age of 79. By the time of his death in August 1999, his accomplishments in engineering, particularly in the field of transportation, were outstanding. Harold Michael had served in many important leadership roles in numerous engineering and community service organizations throughout his adult life. In addition, he had received some of the most prestigious awards given by ASCE, ITE, and TRB. First and foremost, Harold Michael was an educator. He spent his entire 40 year professional career as an educator at Purdue University.

Ohio University Student Chapter Golf Outing
The Ohio University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers would like to invite you to a student, faculty, and alumni 4-man golf scramble (Note friends of Alumni are welcome as well). This is a fund raising event developed to help finance our chapter’s many projects, competitions, and other activities.

Patrick Fox wins Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award from ASCE
Central Ohio Section Member, Patrick J. Fox, has been awarded the 2009 Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the paper “Effect of progressive failure on measured shear strength of geomembrane/GCL interface”, which he authored with Robert H. Kim and published in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 134(4).
Congratulations to Dr. Fox.
